Haberfield House 4

A dilapidated 100 year old timber cottage was coming to the end of its useful life for the young family who owned it. A basic 1915 workers cottage, it has many unsympathetic additions over the decades and needed a lot of maintenance. Being in a flood zone meant any new additions had to be 1m higher than the existing floor level. Replacement seemed a better option but, being in the Haberfield Conservation area meant this virtually impossible. However, council did eventually approved a new 3-bedroom dwelling based on their strict site coverage controls. This provide a challenge on relatively small site.
